OceanBoy Farms'
hurricane preparedness paid off, focus now
on area communities
CLEWISTON,
Fla., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Located in
South Central Florida,OceanBoy Farms, Inc.
has emerged as strong
as ever in an area particularly hard hit
by Hurricane Wilma. All of its employees
are
safe, and with the implementation of its
hurricane preparedness plan, OceanBoy was
able to protect its facilities from severe
damage and keep its organic shrimp secure.
While back-up electric generators allow shrimp harvesting to be completed at
OceanBoy, power outages, blocked roads and fuel shortages in the area have
made travel difficult. However, at the end of harvesting OceanBoy will aid
its South Floridian neighbors in recovery efforts. OceanBoy will donate ice
to area residents without electricity, as power outages will leave many without
refrigeration for up to three weeks. OceanBoy takes pride in its commitment
to the local community as the second largest employer in Clewiston, and is
eager to lend a helping hand during this difficult time.
"While there are certainly repairs that will need to be made, it is
business as usual at Florida's only inland shrimp farm," says OceanBoy President
and COO Steve Walton. "We have systems in place to deal with
the damage and are continuing to harvest and process shrimp, maintaining our productivity
and meeting consumer demands."
OceanBoy will provide much-needed USA-produced shrimp to the marketplace, given
the devastation Hurricanes Katrina and Rita inflicted on Gulf Coast wild shrimpers
and shrimp farmers. OceanBoy Farms is the scientific leader in the development,
production and marketing of healthy, delicious and
environmentally friendly shrimp and is the only successful large-scale producer
of USDA-certified organic shrimp in the United States.
The company can produce 25 tons of ice a day and will set up distribution in
the Clewiston Wal-Mart shopping plaza parking lot at 1005 West Sugarland Highway
(US-27) to accommodate people in a centrally located area.
Distribution will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, November
1. The company will schedule further distribution depending on demand. As the ice
is not bagged, people are requested to bring their own containers, coolers
or bags.
Company representatives are available to accommodate media tours of the farm
and its processing plant during these last few days of harvest, or at any time.
