Thai shrimp
breeders call for end to US anti-dumping penalties
Bangkok
(VNA) - Thai shrimp breeders have submitted
a letter appealing to the US government to
revoke anti-dumping measures against their
shrimp exports, as
American authorities are set to rule on the issue by November 21. A
group of 70 shrimp breeders gathered in
front of the US Embassy in Bangkok to submit
the letter to the US International Trade
Commission (USITC), according to the Thai
news agency.
The anti-dumping measures currently imposed
on Thailand mean that Thai shrimps face an
import duty rate of 5.95 per cent, compared
to 4 per cent on shrimps originating from
Viet Nam, the agency said.
The USITC had earlier sent a fact-finding
mission to examine Thailand's shrimp farming
areas affected by the Andaman tsunami in
southern Phuket, Pang-nga and Krabi Provinces
last December. It has since April held several
rounds of hearings to review its anti-dumping
measures against Thailand and India.
