Hawaii - Paradise Shrimp Farm, Inc. producing 3,000lb per 900-square meter pond

In August 2003, Paradise Shrimp Farm, Inc., broke ground on a new shrimp farm on the island of Oahu. Mitch Smith, owner of AquaSmith, Inc., an aquaculture consulting company, designed and built the closed system farm that includes twelve, 900-square-meter production ponds, a one-acre settling pond, a half-acre waste pond, a new well, irrigation and electrical systems, aerators and filters. On April 6, 2004, Mr. Jung Hoi Ku, farm owner, began stocking ponds. Thus far, production has averaged over 3,000 pounds of shrimp per pond. Mr. Ku sells live shrimp at the farm and from two sites in the town of Kahuku.
