to set tough industry guidelines for shrimp
farming
Shrimp farming practices
in Asia are being examined by the United
Nations Food Agency, which is considering
setting tough industry guidelines and environmental
regulations.
Mangrove devastation allegedly by the reckless
establishment of shrimp farms has triggered
the move. The Network of Aquaculture Centres
in Asia-Pacific (NACA) has published eight
principles for responsible fish farming,
which the U.N.’s Food and Agricultural
Organization will consider adopting at a
meeting next month.
