SyAqua's Speed Line™ shrimp takes off

Sygen International’s aquaculture division, SyAqua, has launched Speed Line™ shrimp, the first shrimp product utilizing its advanced technology and selection program. Shrimp farmers in Thailand who have selected and produced shrimp using SyAqua's Speed Line(TM) have reported growth at rates of 10 percent to 50 percent faster than those produced by local breeding stock suppliers.

Chief Technology Officer, Dr Graham Plastow, commented: “We are excited about the success and our rate of discovery since we implemented our new high density selection program two years ago,” said Graham Plastow, chief technology officer. “The success of our technology in SyAqua
clearly demonstrates that our proprietary technology can be leveraged across multiple species which, of course, underpins Sygen's strategy. The initial work that we are doing in poultry and cattle has yielded equally exciting results in less time than we had anticipated.”

Sygen's business model is predicated on the selective breeding of animals possessing favorable versions of genes for desirable traits and does not involve the production of genetically modified organisms. Sygen utilizes quantitative genetics and biotechnology to identify and select animals that naturally possess the genetics responsible for various desirable traits such as disease resistance, increased productivity, feed conversion, growth rate and meat quality. Sygen then sells these breeding animals to producers and farmers. Sygen
is currently a global market-leading supplier of breeding stock in pigs and shrimp. For more information, visit
