European Union approves
low tariffs for Indonesian shrimp
The European Union (EU) has approved an
Indonesian proposal to keep tariffs of its
shrimp exports at less than 5 percent.
Indonesia asked both the EU and the United
States to extend the Generalized System of
Preferences (GSP) facility on Indonesian
shrimp until 2010. Under the GSP facility,
the EU imposes an import duty of 4.2 percent
on frozen raw shrimp and 7 percent on frozen
cooked shrimp.
Indonesia homes to receive a similarly favorable
response from the U.S.
