ITC injury determination phase vote on 2/17/2004

At 11:00 a.m, on Tuesday, February 17, 2004, the International Trade Commission will vote on the injury determination phase of the shrimp dumping case and will issue a press release on the results of its vote shortly thereafter (http://www.usitc.gov/default.htm).

If ITC finds that there is a reasonable indication that the USA commercial
shrimp fishing industry was materially injured‹or is threatened with material injury the investigations will proceed, and preliminary judgments will be handed down in June 2004.

[ITC will almost certainly find "material injury", so it will not be until June 2004* that we learn whether or not any of the six cases will proceed.

If, in June 2004, ITC finds evidence of dumping from any of the six countries, the Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration will determine the extent of dumping and fix margins.

*Federal statutes allow for the extension of the June 2004 deadline.
