Experience:
 
  • Program Manager, Finfish. The Oceanic Institute. 1996-2002. Principal Investigator and manager of multiple NOAA and USDA research grants investigating aquaculture development of a variety of warm-water marine food and ornamental finfish species. Supervised up to 22 scientific and technical staff in areas of finfish broodstock, hatchery, and intensive land-based and offshore cage culture growout methodologies. Focus on development of technologies for difficult to rear marine species elucidating fundamental biological, physiological, and nutritional processes.
  • Program Manager, Feeds. The Oceanic Institute. 1996-1999. Principal Investigator and manager of USDA-ARS, Feeds research program dedicated to development of second-generation aquatic feeds for marine shrimp (Litopenaus vannami). Supervised up to 15 scientific and technical staff in areas of shrimp nutrition, feeds processing, feeds ingredient characterization, and pond dynamics. Focus on the integration of practical feed and pond nutrients into a complete feeding system for marine shrimp.
  • Program Manager, Mahimahi. The Oceanic Institute 1990-1996. Principal Investigator and manager of NOAA/NMFS Mahimahi research program dedicated to development of applied culture technologies for mahimahi (Coryphaena hippurus). Supervised up to 10 technical and associate staff in live feed culture, larval rearing, nursery, and growout research. Focus on developing an intensive aquaculture technology for mahimahi culture.
  • Research Scientist, USDA-ARS, Feeds Research Program. The Oceanic Institute 1987-1990. Finfish Nutritionist in charge of Program focus on development of nutritional requirements of warm-water marine finfish.
  • Dr. Ostrowski has credited near 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications, popular articles, professional presentations, and a hatchery manual.
